These photographs are views of collieries and any other photographs associated with collieries i.e. workmen or rescue teams of a particular colliery. Collieries are listed in alphabetical order.
 
oDisputes.
Photographs relating to disputes, demonstrations and strikes concerning the South Wales coalfield. These photographs have been catalogued in chronological order.
 
oRecreation - sport, social organisations and events.
Photographs of sports teams and sports, choirs, bands, dramatic societies, galas, eisteddfodau, parades and rallies.
 
oSpanish Civil War.
Photographs relating to the Spanish Civil War. These include Spanish Civil War volunteers, memorials and ceremonies to commemorate those who fought in the civil war.
 
oEducation.
Photographs relating to education have been divided into education for children and adults and photographs relating to the South Wales Miners' Library.
 
oLocal, national and international topographical views.
Photographs of local, national and international topographical views of villages and towns, landscapes and buildings.
 
oPortrait.
Individual portrait photographs are catalogued first then group portraits.
 
oPersonal collections.
Photographs from personal collections deposited (Nos 1 to 20).
