Contains correspondence from friends and colleagues in the NUM South Wales Area during his hospitalisation, mainly goodwill messages, but also items of personal news, and political and NUM affairs. At the time David Francis was the Chief Administrative Officer for the NUM (South Wales Area). The correspondence is in Welsh and English.

MNC/PP/8/3 David Francis: miscellaneous personal correspondence and personal papers.
Includes: A personal biography; correspondence dealing with the procurement of tickets from Seven Sisters Rugby Football Club to watch Wales play rugby Union; invitations to attend concerts, speeches and other social and political events; requests for donations from the NUM (South Wales Area); correspondence concerning the erection of a memorial to the Welsh volunteers in the Spanish Civil War; personal tax returns (1974-75); reports covering the state of the NUM and its structure, nuclear weapons and arms expenditure; a report on the requirements of the industry, and an analysis of the wages resolution at the 1975 conference; a paper entitled 'One step forward two steps backwards in 1976 ?', concerning the wages policy of the NUM; a paper on the Common Market; a paper detailing the National Coal Boards research and development programme (1974); a paper regarding the situation of the miners in the industrial turmoil of the 1970's.
